My Husband and I Ate Lunch Together at a Restaurant Today for $4.67!
You can have a cheap meal almost anytime! We went to Burger King today. Whenever we go to Burger King or McDonalds, we almost always order off the dollar menu. I ordered a cheeseburger for $1.00, a Bacon Cheeseburger for my husband for $1.49 (this was supposed to be $1.29 according to the menu board!), a side salad for $1.59, Value Fries for $1.29 and 2 waters.
We never order anything but water to drink in restaurants. Beverages are a big money maker for restaurants. If we get a lemon wedge, we will squeeze that into the water.
I take the cover from the side salad and flip it upside down and get an extra fork. My husband and I then split the side salad and fries.
Remember the buy $25.00 worth of gift certificates/get a free gift card here a while back? I bought $50.00 worth and got $10.00 in gift cards. This way, we will get 20% off of every meal at BK until the cards are gone. So, the total was $5.67. I used a $5.00 gift card (and paid for the rest in cash). So we got 1.00 off this meal of $5.67 for a total price to us of $4.67! Why buy "Value Meals" and Whoppers and all that when you can get a very inexpensive meal? (If you want to get an even less expensive meal than this, you can have a picnic! That also works!)
So this blog turned into a debate, first in my family and then on Facebook! Here is what I wrote on FB: So we are having a little dispute here.
wink emoticon I bought $50.00 in gift cards and got $10.00 in gift cards for free. If I spend all of it ($60.00), I say I got 16.66% off or 1/6 of the total. My husband says I got 20% off. Let the disputes begin. smile emoticonSince it was three against one in my family and I did see their point, I changed it to 20% above, but I am still uncertain that that is correct. Now, you too can be driven crazy thinking about it (unless you are one of those math whizzes!)

Why Give Your Money Away to Water Bottle Companies? Re-use the Bottles!
It is amazing how much people spend on plain old water now-a-days. Big companies come into people's backyards and suck up water and sell it for oodles of profit (sometimes leaving those same people without their streams). I don't know about you, but I don't like giving my money away for little gain, especially to a big company. Water bottles fall into that category.
Once in a great while, when water bottles are on sale, I will buy a 24 pack. Then, when I need some (I use the word "need" loosely....no one actually "needs" these...that's what actual cups with lids are for but when I want to grab these out of convenience), I grab how many I need and then I use them and re-use them and re-use them. If I go away for a weekend, my bottle (which may have been in my cupboard having been used numerous times before) goes with me everywhere. I don't stop and buy one all the time. I simply fill it up where I am. If I am at a convenience store, I simply show it to the cashier when I walk in and ask if I can fill it. They never say no.
I also take an empty water bottle with me into airports. If you take a full one, you will have to throw it out before you go through security, lest you blow up the airport with a bottle of water. However, if you take an empty one in, you can simply fill it up after you go through security rather than pay $5.00 for a bottle of water.
Some people think that it is not safe to reuse water bottles, a tale started, no doubt, by the water bottle companies themselves. According to snopes, these rumors don't hold water. Get it?? Haha!
http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/plasticbottles.asp
If you regularly buy these bottles of water on a regular basis, you can save good money by changing your routine a little and just give yourself a little bit of time to clean and refill your used ones.

I Haven't Bought Bar Soap in Years (and No, I Don't Make My Own!). Also, Stop Throwing Away Those Slivers!
This is a photo of my soap holder right outside the shower. In it, you can see lots of little bars of soap. These are from the hotels we have stayed at for vacations, conferences etc. You pay for this soap when you rent your room, so you might as well make good use of it. The soap we use when we are there also gets brought home, in the original packaging, which we keep until we are ready to pack up and go home!
Hotel towels, bedding, lamps and pictures are rented. I don't recommend taking those. ;) However, you pay for all the toiletries that are in your rooms, especially the soap that you use when you are there. It will just be thrown in the trash.
Can you guess what this is? This is not a backwards egg! :) This is an older bar of soap "glued" to the next bar. There is no need to throw away that little sliver just because it's too hard to hold onto! Simply use the larger bar, then when you are done showering, press the sliver into the newer bar and let it dry. Presto! No more wasted soap slivers!
I don't use soap on most of my skin. It strips away essential oils and dries it so I only use bar soap on "pertinent areas" also saving on soap and moisturizers!
Happy savings!

Get Deals Like This Weekly! Save Oodles of Cash!
You really can get deals like this weekly. I do it all the time. All you need to do is roll up your sleeves and do a little front work. The deals in the above picture I just got today. I got MORE deals than this, but I didn't want to keep putting little price tag flags on stuff. :)
Most of these deal were gotten through ad match at Walmart. You can find information on doing Walmart Ad Match here:
http://corporate.walmart.com/ad-match-guarantee
Remember the software I said you could get for free the other day? That is the red Panda box in back.
And then I got a covered glass Pyrex bowl at Goodwill for .79!
Some people write me and say "I can't find any of those deals where I live". It may be true that it is hard to find deals where you live, but learning to be frugal means finding the deals where you are. I have lived in two different states and different states will have different "rules to the game". However, taking the time to figure out what those rules are and then playing by those rules will give you the edge you need to start saving.
Christmas clearance is true clearance now.
These stockings were .09 each. I bought quite a few. Think about all the different uses you could have for this next year. A party? For co-workers? For your child's class? For Sunday School?
Chocolate sucker .25
Little gift bag .24
Candy Melts .25
Chocolate Peanut Clusters 1.99
So, if you learn to think frugally, you can find deals like this weekly and save Oodles of cash all year long!

Get on with Saving Now! Three Videos to Inspire You!
Every once in a while, it is good to have some inspiration for saving money!
Amy Dacyzyn wrote the Tightwad Gazette. She is a true Tightwad and a true inspiration!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUFyD-FTf-E
Here is an inspirational video for saving money on groceries. I would also like to add that sometimes you can get milk cheaper with ad match at Walmart than at Aldi. You may not have a mark down store like she does (I don't!) but the idea is to sniff out the deals where you are. That takes work! But it's worth it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UxYlBR4qIU
This is almost a no-brainer, but people spend money on coffee and lunch at convenience stores or restaurants daily! You can save a lot by cutting that out and making it at home.

Save Money and Add Health to Your Life with Beans!
Beans are a great way to save money and add health to your diet. Beans are very inexpensive and so good for you. You can definitely save on your meat bill by switching to using more beans and give your digestive system a break at the same time!
For some recipes, like tacos and burritos, instead of using a full pound of hamburger, you can use a 1/2 pound and substitute a can of beans for the other half. If you spend, say, $4.00/lb on hamburger in your area and substitute a .59 can of beans, you could save $1.41 on a meal simply by switching. You could even use a can of re-fried beans instead of any meat and save even more!
You can sprinkle beans on salads, put them in soups. You can even put them in brownies! Here are a couple links for bean recipes and you can find many more with a simple search:
http://frugalliving.about.com/od/recipesbyingredient/a/Bean_Recipes.htm
http://www.5dollardinners.com/rice-and-beans-budget-recipes/
Beans are so healthy for you that one local nutritionist who preaches eating beans so much, is known as The Bean Queen. She obviously recommends eating lots and lots of beans for many health ailments. http://www.karenhurd.com/rp-recipes.html
If you used beans every day instead of meat 365 days a year and saved $1.41 every day (which most won't do but this is a good example of what you can save!) you would save $514.65/year. If you only did it once a week, you would save $73.32 in a year.
Beans are a very inexpensive source of protein. Protein sticks with you in a way that bread and fruit will not and keeps your sugar levels at a more even keel so you could save money on doctor bills as well.

If You Love Using Tons of Coupons, This Blog is For You!
A person used to be able to get coupons on ebay for shipping and handling costs. Apparently the manufacturers didn't like that so ebay stopped doing it. I had gotten a few sets when I went through a coupon phase. I still use coupons sometimes, and so I ended up on this list. This is an email list done by one of the people who used to put sets together for ebay. If you are interested in LOTS of coupons, you can obtain them here. Just write a note to the email address below and Dana, the owner, will put you on the list. If you would mention my blog to Dana, I would appreciate it!
